Sweden’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology signed a cooperation agreement with Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy on 20 October. The signing took place during President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s state visit to Sweden.
KTH President Anders Söderholm said the partnership would connect the university’s expertise in technology and innovation with the Singapore school’s strengths in public policy and leadership development. The school is part of the National University of Singapore. According to Söderholm, the aim is to help turn technological advances into effective policies and lasting benefits for society.
Future energy in focus
The agreement was signed during a visit to KTH attended by Tharman, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. Sweden’s energy minister Ebba Busch and business representatives also joined the delegation.
The programme focused on future energy systems, nuclear technology and energy security. Guests attended a panel discussion involving companies and Sweden’s radiation safety authority. Novatron Fusion Group also presented its fusion technology and test facility at KTH.
Ahead of the signing, Tharman said the Lee Kuan Yew School would strengthen partnerships with both KTH and the Stockholm School of Economics. He said these links would create more opportunities for research and academic exchanges.
The agreement adds to the academic ties highlighted during the visit. ScandAsia previously reported on plans for KTH, Ericsson and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University to collaborate on AI and 6G positioning technology.
