Swedish drug suspect arrested in Hua Hin

A Swedish man (middle with covered face) has been arrested by Thai police on drug related offenses.

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau said it arrested a Swedish man wanted under an Interpol Red Notice on drug charges, local Thai media reports.

Police said the suspect had been hiding in a condominium in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Officers began investigating after residents complained about suspicious behaviour and cannabis use.

Thai officials said checks of the man’s name and passport details matched a major narcotics suspect wanted in Sweden. Police said the case involved cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis, and also referenced earlier offences.

Immigration police said they revoked his permission to stay in Thailand on 16 January. Officers then arrested him in his room on 17 January and confirmed his identity using biometric records and a neck tattoo.

The Immigration Bureau said the suspect is being held for further proceedings under Thailand’s immigration law.
