The Thai action-fantasy film “4 Tigers” has been selected to open the 2026 edition of Lund Fantastic Film Festival in Sweden.
Directed by Kongkiat Komesiri, the film will have its Swedish premiere at Kino in Lund on 28 October. The festival runs until 4 November.
Set in Thailand shortly after the Second World War, “4 Tigers” follows four legendary bandits forced to put aside their rivalries to confront an increasingly authoritarian military leader.
Each of the four possesses a different supernatural ability. Bai can bend bullets, Dum has extraordinary physical strength, Mahesuan is protected by an invulnerable amulet and Fai commands spells and spirits.
The film combines Thai history and folklore with elements of action, fantasy, comedy, romance, horror and the spaghetti western.
“4 Tigers” expands the cinematic universe established in Komesiri’s “Khun Pan” trilogy, released between 2016 and 2023. The new film focuses on the origins of four bandits who later become adversaries of the trilogy’s sorcerer-detective.
The principal cast includes Sukollawat Kanaros, Mario Maurer, Arak Amornsupasiri and Phakin Khamwilaisak.
The 138-minute film received its international premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year. It later had its North American premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival, where Mario Maurer attended a screening and audience session.
The screening in Lund will mark the film’s first presentation in Sweden.
Founded in 1995, Lund Fantastic Film Festival presents horror, science fiction, fantasy, animation and other forms of genre cinema. This year’s festival will take place from 28 October to 4 November.
