Thai AirAsia cuts 30 percent of flights and suspends routes until October

Thai AirAsia is cutting its flight capacity by around 30 percent in May and June, while also suspending multiple routes through to October, as soaring fuel prices continue to hit the aviation industry.

The airline confirmed the capacity reduction in a statement on April 28, citing both rising fuel costs and weaker mid-year travel demand.

This means fewer low-cost options and a higher risk of schedule changes in the coming months.

Reduced flights and temporary suspensions

The 30 percent reduction will primarily affect May and June, with fewer departures across both domestic and international routes.

At Suvarnabhumi Airport, most domestic routes will be paused during this period.

Flights will still operate from Don Mueang Airport, though at reduced frequency.

The suspensions and cut comes as fuel prices are still ricing due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.

“Aviation fuel constitutes our primary operating expense, and with jet fuel prices having surged more than threefold recently, we must rigorously optimize our operational plans by reducing flight frequencies and temporarily suspending several unviable routes,” CEO of AirAsia, Phairat Pornpathananangoon, said.

Routes suspended during a longer period

At the same time, several international routes are being suspended for longer periods — in some cases until late October 2026.
