Airlines cut routes for several months in Thailand as fuel costs keep rising

Several airlines in Thailand have suspended routes as fuel prices rise sharply. The changes come after fuel prices surged amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, according to Thaiger.

Thai Lion Air, Nok Air and Thai AirAsia have all announced cancellations on both domestic and international flights following higher operating costs.

Routes affected

Thai Lion Air has suspended its route between Bangkok and Seoul from May 9 to September 30.

Nok Air has cancelled its Chiang Mai–Udon Thani route for April.

Thai AirAsia and Thai AirAsia X have also suspended multiple routes, including flights from Bangkok to China, Saudi Arabia and southern Thailand.

Thai AirAsia has suspended several routes:

  • Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) to Narathiwat, Thailand (April 21 to October 24)
  • Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Xi’an, China (May 11 to October 23)
  • Hong Kong to Okinawa, Japan (May 7 to October 24)
  • Phuket to Chennai, India (April 13 to October 24)
  • Phuket to Cochin, India (April 17 to October 23)

Thai AirAsia X has also suspended:

  • Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Shanghai, China (April 17 to October 24)
  • Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (April 14 to May 30)

More routes may follow

Several of the suspended routes are expected to resume later in the year, depending on fuel prices.

The airlines say the cuts are temporary but necessary due to rising costs.
