Thai Princess visits Norway

The Embassy of Thailand in Oslo informs that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is in Norway from March 12 to March 15. The Princess is the daughter of King  Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit.

The main objective is “Longyearbyen”  and “Ny Ålesund” on Svalbard where she wish to get more insight in the environment and climate in this Arctic region. It is also expected that she will meet the largest foreign group on the island – the many Thais who have settled and working are there.
Svalbard is a part of Norway and is located 400 miles from the mainland, inside the Artic Circle. Svalbard is home to 110 Thais and has the most Northern Thai restaurant in the world. The visit will undoubtedly be big news to the inhabiting Thais as the Princess is extremely popular. She isknown as “Phra Thep”, meaning “Princess angel”.
She will also have an audience with His Royal Highness King Harald on March 15. Before Norway, the Princess paid a short visit to Denmark where she named the newborn elephant “Khao Sok”.
