Thailand and Finland are moving forward with educational collaboration under a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year between the two countries’ education ministries.
On Tuesday 15 July 2025, the first Consultation Meeting of the Thailand–Finland Joint Working Group on Education was held at the Thai Ministry of Education in Bangkok. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Pichet Phophakdee and attended by Dr. Annika Vatanen, Education Advisor at the Embassy of Finland in Thailand, along with representatives from various Thai education agencies.
The meeting aimed to review and plan the implementation of eight cooperation projects agreed upon under the bilateral MOU signed in February 2025 at the Royal Princess Larn Luang Hotel.
Among the proposed initiatives are:
- A Thailand–Finland Education Seminar
- Early childhood education development
- Teacher training in phenomenon-based learning (PhBL)
- Strategic educational exchanges
- Vocational skills development
- Robotics, programming, and AI training for teachers
- Promotion of adult education and lifelong learning
- Integration of Finnish best practices into Thailand’s teacher development framework, especially in STEM education
The discussions covered budgeting, planning of activities, agency responsibilities, and mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the partnership.
“Thailand is grateful for Finland’s ongoing support in the education sector,” said Mr. Pichet Phophakdee.
“We are committed to promoting collaboration that benefits both our nations.”
The Finnish delegation welcomed the proposals and expressed strong support for the continued partnership. Both parties agreed to work toward systematic and sustainable implementation of the projects.
