Danish ambassador meets Thai Senate president

On Tuesday 15 July 2025, Danish Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Danny Annan, paid a courtesy call on Senate President Mr. Mongkol Surasajja at the Thai Parliament.

Ambassador Annan was accompanied by senior members of the Senate, including First Vice President General Kriengkrai Srirak and chairs and vice chairs of key committees on foreign affairs, public health, education, and governance.

Senate President Mongkol welcomed the ambassador’s initiatives to deepen cooperation and noted the productive June meeting between the ambassador and Senator Weeraphan Suwannamai, which focused on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), equitable healthcare, and public health system development.

Further discussions touched on parliamentary collaboration under the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Thailand’s progress towards OECD membership, and shared goals in promoting the rule of law, human rights, and green development. Senator Weeraphan highlighted Thailand’s “Green Parliament” goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2032, an area where Denmark is considered a model.

Ambassador Annan emphasised the continued growth of trade and investment ties, noting that over 100 Danish companies are active in Thailand, employing more than 50,000 Thai workers. He also voiced support for the Thailand-EU Free Trade Agreement and pledged to further strengthen the strategic partnership during his tenure.
