Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard met with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on Friday to strengthen ties between their countries. They discussed boosting trade, investment, and cooperation, with a focus on Thailand’s bid to join the OECD. They also talked about global issues like the Myanmar crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Stenergard emphasized the strong relationship between Sweden and Thailand, driven by cultural exchange and economic ties. They also addressed the protection of Thai berry pickers in Sweden and security concerns, particularly around defence technologies.

After the meeting, Stenergard explored Bangkok’s Talad Noi and Yaowarat (Chinatown), enjoying the local culture and street food with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt. Diplomatic relations between the two nations have thrived for over 156 years, with strong Swedish business and tourism connections in Thailand.
