Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will bring representatives from the country’s government and business sector on a state visit to Sweden from 19 to 21 October 2026.
Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf invited the president, who will also travel with his wife, Jane Ittogi.
The visit will focus on trade and investment within research-based innovation, emerging technologies, critical infrastructure and the digital and green transitions, according to the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Security policy will also feature in the discussions. Sweden says the two sides will address how they can develop, protect and prepare critical infrastructure for future challenges.
More than 300 Swedish companies in Singapore
Singapore is an important commercial hub for Swedish businesses in Southeast Asia. More than 300 Swedish companies currently operate in the country, while bilateral trade remains extensive.
The state visit also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Singapore. It follows King Carl XVI Gustaf’s visit to Singapore in 2024.
Sweden has not yet released the names of the participating Singaporean companies or the full programme. Further details will follow closer to the visit.
