This week, representatives from Denmark’s Investment & Trade team met with the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration and the Vietnam Register in Hanoi, the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam reports.

The discussions centred on fleet efficiency, sustainability and regulatory development. The meeting takes place as Vietnam’s maritime sector continues its rapid rise.

The country is now ranked third in Southeast Asia and 22nd globally. Around 1,500 ocean-going vessels sail under the Vietnamese flag. Nearly 50,000 operate on inland waterways.

Vietnam has committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050. According to the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, shipping will be central to that effort.

During the talks, Danish representatives presented experience in fuel optimisation, digital fleet systems and green port development. The Vietnamese side outlined priorities for modernisation of vessels and regulatory frameworks.

Joint webinars and trade missions are scheduled for 2026 as part of the continued dialogue between the two countries.
