Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio, is placing China at the centre of discussions as EU trade ministers gather in Nicosia this week, Finnish Government reports.
The meeting will address the EU’s complex trade relationship with China – a crucial market for Finnish companies, yet also a growing source of concern. Brussels is seeking to reduce harmful dependencies, particularly in critical supply chains where China holds strong control.
For Finland, the balance is delicate. China remains an important trading partner, but the risks linked to economic dependence are increasing.
At the same time, the EU is working to diversify its trade through new agreements with countries such as India and Indonesia, aiming to open alternative Asian markets for Nordic businesses.
