Vietnam has taken over the rotating chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Copenhagen for the next year, marking a new phase in ASEAN’s diplomatic coordination in Denmark, Viet Nam News reports.
The handover took place during a ceremony at the Thai Embassy in Copenhagen, attended by diplomats from ASEAN countries and representatives from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, businesses, and institutions.
Vietnam said its chairmanship will focus on strengthening ASEAN’s visibility in Denmark and expanding cooperation between ASEAN member states and Danish partners.
The transition comes at a time of growing ties, as Denmark has recently become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN, while Timor-Leste joined the bloc as its newest member in 2025.
On the same occasion, ASEAN embassies in Denmark jointly hosted a seminar on future cooperation between ASEAN and Denmark, highlighting areas such as green transition, digital innovation, and sustainable development.
Vietnam’s ambassador Nguyễn Lê Thanh stressed the importance of unity within ASEAN and said the group must adapt to global challenges, including economic shifts, technological change, and geopolitical competition.
She also pointed to strong potential for deeper ASEAN–Denmark cooperation in areas linked to sustainability and innovation.
