Gina Tran wants a new association in Finland to bring generations of Vietnamese people together and give Finnish residents opportunities to experience Vietnamese culture through the traditional áo dài dress.

Tran spoke on behalf of the founders when the Vietnamese Ao Dai Association in Finland launched in Helsinki on 24 October, with support from the Vietnamese Embassy.

According to The World and Vietnam Report, she said the group would connect áo dài enthusiasts and thanked the embassy and community for helping realise the initiative.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Dieu Tam attended the launch, which featured áo dài presentations and cultural performances. She highlighted the dress’s role in maintaining connections to Vietnam and passing cultural traditions to younger generations.

ScandAsia previously reported on Finland-based Nguyen Thuong Thuy winning a European áo dài title in June. That competition took place in Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic.
