Floodwaters began to recede in Bangkok on Monday, 28 September, after days of heavy rain, but several roads and neighbourhoods remained submerged.
Around 329,000 households, representing roughly 700,000 people, have been affected, according to figures from Bangkok’s flood control centre. Bang Kapi and several other eastern districts were among the hardest hit.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the city was working to lower water levels in its main canals before it could drain flooded streets and communities. Some areas could therefore take longer to clear.
The flooding also prevented some staff from reaching Suvarnabhumi Airport, contributing to delays in handling passenger baggage. Thai Airways said it had brought in additional personnel to clear the backlog.
