Business Sweden has strengthened its presence in China with additional staff, expanded local expertise and newly renovated offices in Shanghai. The investment is intended to help Swedish companies develop business opportunities and partnerships in the Chinese market.
The Swedish trade and investment council announced the expansion on 12 October 2026, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Business Sweden and the Swedish Consulate General’s presence in Shanghai.
According to Business Sweden, demand for market support and advisory services in China is growing. The upgraded Shanghai office will serve as a platform for cooperation between Swedish companies and Chinese businesses, particularly in sectors contributing to the green and digital transitions.
“China is a strategically important market and innovation hub for many Swedish companies,” said Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.
He explained that the expanded presence would help Swedish businesses strengthen their competitiveness while identifying Chinese investments, technologies and partnerships that could contribute to growth and innovation in Sweden.
The inauguration was expected to bring together around 70 representatives from Swedish and Chinese industry, government and diplomatic circles. Participants included Jan Larsson, Swedish Consul General Annika Hahn-Englund and Jacob Wallenberg, Honorary Chair of the Mayor of Shanghai’s International Business Leaders Advisory Council.
Per Portén, Sweden’s Trade Commissioner to China, said the investment would strengthen Business Sweden’s ability to facilitate a new generation of partnerships in innovation, technology and strategic investment.
Business Sweden operates in more than 40 locations worldwide, helping Swedish companies expand internationally and assisting foreign companies interested in investing in Sweden.
