China Eastern launches direct flights between Shanghai and Copenhagen

A new direct flight route connecting Shanghai and Copenhagen was inaugurated on Thursday 17 July 2025 by China Eastern Airlines, marking a significant step in strengthening air links between China and Denmark.

The route will fly three times per week—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It is set to increase to four weekly flights starting 24 September, with the addition of a Wednesday departure.

The inaugural flight, operated by an Airbus A330, landed at Copenhagen Airport at 7 p.m. local time and was welcomed with a ceremonial water cannon salute. Two hours later, the return flight MU708 departed for Shanghai, carrying over 250 passengers.

Passengers at the Copenhagen terminal queued to board the return flight to Shanghai, with China Eastern Airlines handing out commemorative gifts to mark the occasion. A short ceremony was held in the terminal, attended by officials and dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Denmark Wang Xuefeng described the new route as an “air bridge” between the two countries, enhancing practical cooperation, mutual understanding, and people-to-people exchanges.

The launch also comes in the year that marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark.
