Denmark and Malaysia are looking to deepen cooperation on green technology and sustainable development, as Danish companies showcased solutions at the inaugural Green Denmark Day in Kuala Lumpur on 11 September.

Malaysia’s Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz said the event highlighted Danish expertise in areas including renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable urban development.

“Denmark has the expertise and innovation, while Malaysia has the talent, industrial ecosystem and access to the ASEAN market,” Zafrul said in a social media post following the event.

The event brought together Danish companies and Malaysian stakeholders to discuss opportunities for collaboration on the country’s green transition. Danish engineering consultancy Ramboll, for example, took part in discussions on sustainable data centres, energy security and resource management.

Green Denmark Day builds on the Green Transition Alliance, launched by Denmark and Malaysia in December 2024. The alliance aims to connect Danish green expertise with Malaysian companies and public-sector stakeholders, with a focus on areas including renewable energy, green infrastructure, energy efficiency, and water and waste management.

Denmark already has a substantial business presence in Malaysia. According to Malaysia’s investment authority, more than 100 Danish companies were operating in the country as of June 2024, with manufacturing investments worth more than RM2.2 billion and more than 5,000 jobs created.

The Green Transition Alliance is intended to build on that commercial relationship by creating further opportunities for Danish companies to provide technology and expertise for Malaysia’s green transition.
