Lars Sandahl Sørensen, CEO of the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), has welcomed a new comprehensive strategic partnership between Denmark and Vietnam.

The upgrade places relations at the highest level in Vietnam’s international partnership system, according to DI’s announcement on 19 October.

Negotiated in connection with Vietnamese President Tô Lâm’s state visit to Denmark, the partnership builds on the countries’ Green Strategic Partnership from 2023.

Sørensen said the stronger ties could help Danish companies expand in Vietnam. He pointed to opportunities in energy, food, healthcare, green transition and modern manufacturing.

Focus on investment barriers

DI wants the new political framework to help address obstacles holding back Danish investment. However, its announcement does not identify specific barriers that have been removed.

Around 150 Danish companies already operate in Vietnam, according to DI. The organisation has also opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City to support Danish businesses and strengthen local connections.

As ScandAsia previously reported, Tô Lâm’s visit runs from 19–21 October and includes meetings with Danish business leaders.

The visit marks 55 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
