Chinese authorities have identified one Finnish national among 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries who remain unaccounted for following the mudslide in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, according to Xinhua.
The disaster occurred on August 26 after a glacier collapse triggered a massive flow of ice, rock and mud near the China-Nepal border. At least 16 people have been confirmed dead on the Chinese side, while 546 people remain missing, including nationals from 23 countries.
The list of missing foreigners includes 104 Nepalis, 49 Indians, 33 Latvians, 18 Americans and 15 Britons. Finland is among several countries with one national reported missing. Chinese authorities said they have notified the relevant embassies and consulates.
Rescue operations are continuing in difficult conditions. China said on September 2 that road access to the affected area had been restored, allowing heavy rescue equipment to reach the disaster zone.
