Chiang Mai Immigration Police arrested a Finnish man who overstayed his visa in Thailand for 3,844 days—more than 10 years.

Acting on a tip, officers located the man in San Sai District, Chiang Mai Province. After verifying his details in the Immigration Bureau’s database, they apprehended him on December 2. He now faces legal proceedings and deportation.

The man admitted to entering Thailand on a tourist visa and failing to renew it after it expired. He confessed to evading authorities for years to avoid being caught.

The operation was part of a crackdown on immigration violations, directed by the Commander of Immigration Division 5. Chiang Mai authorities stressed their commitment to enforcing the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979) and maintaining lawful entry and residency in the Kingdom.

Deportation arrangements to return the man to Finland are underway.
