
Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, Mr. Jussi Halla-aho is currently visiting China at the invitation of Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The visit marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and China.
Mr. Jussi Halla-aho is joined by Finnish Members of Parliament Jouni Ovaska and Saara-Sofia Sirén. On Monday 7 April 2025, the delegation held meetings in Beijing with top Chinese officials to discuss a broad range of issues including bilateral and parliamentary cooperation, trade and economic relations, EU-China relations, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, regional developments in East Asia, and China-US relations.
In Beijing, the Finnish delegation met with Chairman Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Minister Liu Jianchao of the International Department of the Communist Party of China.
The delegation is also visiting Shanghai, where the focus will shift to economic cooperation. Meetings are scheduled with Chen Jining, Party Secretary of the Shanghai CPC Committee, and Huan Lixin, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress. The Finnish delegation will also engage with representatives from Finnish companies operating in China to learn more about the local business environment.
The embassy shared that the visit reflects Finland’s longstanding ties with China and the importance of continued dialogue on both political and economic fronts.
