Passengers at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport have faced delays of up to five or six hours for their luggage after flooding disrupted Thai Airways’ ground operations.
The disruption began on September 26, with some departing flights delayed and baggage from several arriving flights left behind at the airport.
According to the Bangkok Post, flooding in several areas affected the ability of Thai Airways ground-handling staff to reach work, leaving the airline with insufficient personnel. The situation was further worsened by malfunctions involving some baggage carts.
Suvarnabhumi Airport said it was working with Thai Airways to increase the ground-handling workforce, repair faulty equipment and provide replacements to speed up baggage processing.
The disruption could affect international travellers arriving in Bangkok, including passengers connecting to domestic flights or continuing onward to other destinations in Thailand.
