The Embassy of Denmark in Singapore recently celebrated a significant event with the naming ceremony for the A.P. Møller, one of the world’s largest methanol-powered container ships. The vessel arrived in Singapore as part of its maiden voyage from Asia to Europe. Ambassador Jakob Brix Tange attended the ceremony, marking this exciting occasion.

Stretching an impressive 350 meters in length and capable of carrying over 16,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) when fully loaded, the ‘A.P. Møller’ is a remarkable advancement in sustainable shipping. The ship will proudly fly the Danish flag, underscoring Denmark’s leadership in eco-friendly maritime practices.

As the shipping industry faces increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, the use of green fuels, such as methanol, plays a crucial role in the decarbonization strategy. Investing in dual-fuel vessels like the ‘A.P. Møller’ is a vital step to ensure that shipping continues to support global trade while contributing to the fight against climate change.

The Danish Embassy expressed enthusiasm over the vessel’s journey, stating, “We’re excited to see the ‘A.P. Møller’ sail across the seas, representing Danish innovation and our commitment to a greener future.”

Furthermore the Embassy invites those interested in exploring the maritime industry in Singapore or potential opportunities to connect with Maritime Advisor Jacqueline Tan.
