Starting Dec. 1, facial recognition services will be available for international passengers at six major Thai airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Hat Yai, according to Airports of Thailand (AOT).
The biometric system aims to speed up checkpoints, reducing processing time from three minutes to one. Travelers can register for the service at check-in counters or self-service kiosks.
Once registered, passengers can check luggage at Common Use Bag Drop machines without showing boarding passes or passports. The system reduces checkpoint times from three minutes to one.
AOT assures data privacy, stating that biometric information will be deleted 48 hours after registration, in line with Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act.
The service has already been in use for domestic flights since Nov. 1, marking a step towards enhanced convenience and efficiency for travelers.
This development underscores Thailand’s commitment to modernizing its airport services.
