Nordic embassies across Southeast Asia marked Nordic Day on 23 March, highlighting cooperation between Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, along with the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland.
The day commemorates the signing of the Helsinki Treaty in 1962, which laid the foundation for close political and cultural cooperation across the Nordic region. Embassies in countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines shared messages emphasising common values such as democracy, equality, sustainability, and trust.
In the Philippines, Nordic ambassadors highlighted long-standing cooperation with the country and pointed to opportunities in innovation and sustainable development. A joint appearance by Nordic ambassadors on a local television programme was also announced as part of the celebrations.

In Thailand, the Nordic embassies continue to work closely together through joint initiatives such as Nordic Day events, cultural festivals, and business activities. This year’s Nordic Day reception in Bangkok, held on 4 February, gathered around 500 participants.
Across the region, Nordic Day was used to underline shared priorities and partnerships, with embassies pointing to continued collaboration with Southeast Asian countries in areas such as green transition, inclusive growth, and social development.
