As global energy markets grow unstable and traditional trade routes falter, the Philippines is looking north for reliable partners, The Philbiznews reports.
At the first Nordic Day celebration in Manila, diplomats from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland spoke of a partnership rooted in trust, democratic values, and resilience.
Denmark’s Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin emphasized that the relationship is not defined by distance but by shared direction.
Finland’s Ambassador Saija Nurminen warned that the rules-based order is under pressure, highlighting the importance of cooperation in both security and digital resilience.
Norway’s Ambassador Christian Halaas Lyster pointed to Nordic companies already investing in the Philippines, creating jobs in maritime industries, renewable energy, and digital services.
Sweden’s Ambassador Anna Ferry looked ahead to opportunities in digital governance, healthcare modernization, and the energy transition, stressing that the strongest bridges between nations are built by people.
“These human connections are already visible, with thousands of Filipinos living and working in Nordic countries while cultural exchanges and tourism continue to grow – and it is precisely these ties that make the Nordic model of open markets, innovation, and sustainability a stable anchor in uncertain times.
“The Nordic choice is cooperation over fragmentation, and partnership over isolation,” Ambassador Ferry said.
