Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Oslo on Tuesday as part of the Chinese minister’s Nordic tour.

The talks focused on trade, the green transition and international security issues, the Norwegian Government reports.

During the meeting, Støre raised Norway’s concerns over China’s support for Russia’s war in Ukraine and called on China to contribute to efforts to achieve a ceasefire and lasting peace.

“The human rights situation in China is cause for concern,” Støre said after the meeting.

The meeting also followed up on the green transition dialogue established during Støre’s visit to China in 2024, which aims to strengthen cooperation and create opportunities for Norwegian companies in the Chinese market.

“In these times of global instability, it is vital that we maintain a constructive dialogue with China,” Prime Minister Støre said after the meeting.

At the same time, Støre stressed that Norway is taking a more cautious approach towards China in areas linked to national security and critical dependencies.
