Malaysia has stopped all new defence purchases from Norway after the Norwegian government blocked the export of missiles ordered for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s new Littoral Combat Ships according to The Star.
The missiles were due to be supplied by Norwegian defence company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace under a contract signed in 2018.
Malaysia says Norway’s decision will force the country to remove equipment already installed on the ships and integrate a replacement missile system from another supplier.
In response, the Malaysian cabinet has ordered an immediate halt to any new defence purchases from Norway, according to government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.
The Malaysian government is also seeking more than RM1 billion in compensation from Norwegian defence company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
