Norwegians in Thailand and Singapore have gathered at local Norwegian Seamen’s Churches to mourn the death of King Harald.
In Pattaya, the Norwegian Seamen’s Church held a memorial service attended by Norwegians and Thais, as well as Norway’s newly arrived ambassador to Thailand, Frode Solberg.
The Danish Church in Thailand was also represented, with Danish priest Nicolaj Stubbe Hørlyck delivering a greeting on behalf of the Danish Church Abroad.
The service focused on remembering King Harald and sharing the grief following his death. The King was also the high patron of the Norwegian Seamen’s Church.
In Singapore, the Norwegian Seamen’s Church opened its doors for people wishing to pay their respects. A book of condolences was made available, while visitors could light candles and spend time in quiet reflection.
The Singapore church said that all condolence books from the Norwegian Seamen’s Churches would eventually be collected and sent to the Royal Palace in Oslo.
