Thailand has moved closer to reducing visa-free stays for travellers from all five Nordic countries from 60 to 30 days.
Four notices implementing the revised visa rules were signed on 26 August. An Interior Ministry letter dated 27 August confirms that they have been forwarded for publication in the Royal Gazette.
The signed list covers 60 countries and territories, including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Australia, Canada, India, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States are also included.
The new rules have not yet taken effect. Thailand’s current 60-day visa exemption will remain in place until 15 days after the notices are published in the Royal Gazette. No official publication or implementation date had been confirmed at the time of writing.
ScandAsia previously reported that Thailand’s Cabinet had decided to abolish the 60-day scheme. The signed notices represent the latest step towards implementing that decision.
The rules will also generally limit visa-exempt entries through land borders to twice per calendar year. Nordic travellers are not among the nationalities exempted from this restriction.
