Notable growth: China gains ground in Norway

Chinese car brands made up nearly 14% of all new car sales in Norway in 2025, according to data reported by Reuters.

The figures, based on research from automotive consultancy Inovev, show that Chinese manufacturers increased their overall share of the European market to 6% last year.

Growth in electric vehicle market

Norway was one of the countries where their growth was most noticeable and is also one of the world’s leading markets for electric vehicles, with almost all new cars sold being fully electric. Many Chinese car companies focus mainly on electric models, which may explain their strong position in the Norwegian market.

In comparison, Chinese brands accounted for just over 2% of new car sales in Germany and Slovakia in 2025, Reuters reported. Companies such as BYD, Geely Holding and Chery have expanded their sales across Europe in recent years.
