Philippine Embassy in Oslo explores migration cooperation with IOM Norway

Meeting on the Philippine embassy regarding migration policies

The International Organization for Migration (IOM Norway) was invited to the The Philippines Embassy on 5 August 2025 for discussions regarding migration governance.

Chief of Mission Fumiko Nagano and Programme Coordinator Sasha Lipton met with embassy officials to explore potential partnerships in promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration. The meeting highlighted shared priorities in protecting migrant welfare and enhancing migration systems.

The Philippine embassy estimates that around 27.000 Filipinos reside in Norway. Norway is thereby home to the largest Filipino diaspora in Scandinavia, with only 17.000 Filipinos residing in Sweden, 12.000 in Denmark and mere 3000 residing in Iceland.

The embassy described the meeting as a productive step toward deepening engagement with IOM Norway on joint initiatives.
