Danish maritime companies have been presented with opportunities to invest and expand in the Philippine shipbuilding and ship repair industry.
The Royal Danish Embassy in Manila organised a seminar at Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen on 25 August. The event brought together representatives from Danish maritime companies and organisations as well as ministry officials.
Danish Ambassador to the Philippines Franz-Michael Mellbin presented an overview of the Philippine industry alongside Anne Kristine D. Salvador from the Philippine Embassy in Denmark.
They highlighted incentives and market opportunities available to Danish companies considering entering or expanding their presence in the Philippines.
Participants also discussed challenges facing foreign investors, including the development of local supply chains, access to financing, long-term sustainability and competition from other shipbuilding countries.
The seminar forms part of a broader effort by Denmark and the Philippines to revitalise the Philippine shipbuilding and ship repair sector.
ScandAsia previously reported that the two countries held a two-day seminar in Manila in November 2025. That event brought together the Danish Embassy and Philippine authorities to discuss regulatory reforms, technical partnerships and ways to improve the industry’s international competitiveness.
The latest seminar shifted the focus towards attracting Danish commercial participation. However, no individual companies, investments or new agreements were announced following the meeting.
