The Taipei Representative Office in Sweden, led by Ambassador Risheng Gu and his wife, hosted a National Day dinner in Oslo on 25 September to celebrate Taiwan’s 114th National Day. The event gathered 25 Norwegian guests from politics, business, academia and the overseas Taiwanese community.
Among the attendees were Tor-André Johnsen, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Friends of Taiwan group, Fredrik Carstens, Secretary General of the Liberal Party, and former Minister of Climate and Environment Ola Elvestuen. The guests underlined the importance of strengthening Taiwan–Norway relations, promoting democratic resilience and building partnerships to counter authoritarian challenges.
In his remarks, Ambassador Gu expressed gratitude for the continued support of Norway’s Friends of Taiwan group and highlighted Taiwan’s global leadership in semiconductor manufacturing. He noted that 90 percent of the world’s high-end chips and AI servers are produced in Taiwan, and that Norway’s sovereign wealth fund ranks Taiwan as its third-largest investment location in Asia.
Norwegian political representatives reaffirmed their support for Taiwan’s international participation and commitment to bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Gu concluded by stressing Taiwan’s commitment to “values-based diplomacy” and working with like-minded countries to safeguard peace in the Taiwan Strait and contribute to global stability and prosperity.
