
Sweden recently reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and development cooperation with the Philippines during a visit by State Secretary for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Diana Janse, and Sida Director General, Jakob Granit.
According to the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, the delegation engaged with Philippine counterparts in finance, national defense, foreign affairs, transport, and ICT to enhance bilateral partnerships.
Among the key developments of the visit:
- Swedfund signed a grant to support the development of public transportation in the Philippines.
- Discussions took place on improving disaster preparedness and response, including Ericsson’s disaster relief initiatives in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
- The Swedish delegation expressed support for the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas Freight Railway Project, with Swedfund providing technical assistance.
- A $200 million guarantee agreement was signed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to boost climate change-related investments in Southeast Asia.
- The delegation visited OSM Group, a Swedish consumer electronics and engineered soft goods company, in Clark.
Sweden continues to emphasize sustainable growth and innovation-driven collaboration as key elements of its relationship with the Philippines.
