The Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok has joined an initiative supporting prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration through a donation of books to Klong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok.
The initiative brought together the Swedish and German embassies in Thailand, the Thai Institute of Justice (TIJ) and local organisation Freedom Bridge. Together, the partners collected and donated more than 700 books to the prison library.
The initiative aims to improve prisoners’ access to education, knowledge and opportunities for personal development.
According to the Swedish Embassy, access to books can also support prisoners’ mental well-being and help prepare them for a successful return to society.
The embassy said it joined the initiative as part of efforts to support rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners.
The books were donated to the library at Klong Prem Central Prison, one of Thailand’s major correctional facilities in Bangkok.
