
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden started his state visit to Singapore with a warm welcome at Parliament. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam hosted the ceremony, which included a guard of honour and national anthems. The King and President then held talks to strengthen ties.
At the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a new orchid hybrid, Papilionanda King Carl XVI Gustaf, was named in the King’s honour. He also toured the UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the afternoon, the King visited Marina Bay Sands and Marina Barrage. He learned about Singapore’s work on sustainability and water management.
The day ended with a state banquet at Raffles Hotel. President Tharman and Ms. Jane Ittogi hosted the event, celebrating the friendship between Sweden and Singapore.
This visit, the first official state visit from Sweden, highlights efforts to boost economic ties and cultural exchange between the two nations.
