Thailand showcased its medical innovations and traditional health practices to Nordic audiences at an event in Copenhagen focused on healthy ageing, according to a Facebookpost from the Royal Thai Embassy.
The event, hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy at UN City on 16 September, brought together representatives from Thai and Nordic government agencies, academia and the health sector to explore cooperation in medical research and innovation.
Thailand’s Ambassador to Denmark, Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, highlighted Thailand’s ambition to develop as a regional medical hub and the country’s combination of modern medical technology with traditional health practices.
Dr Sarawut Boonsuk, Director-General of Thailand’s Department of Medical Sciences, presented Thai developments in medical science, including advanced therapy medicinal products and herbal innovations, while pointing to opportunities for international research and investment.
Traditional Thai medicine was also part of the event. The Danish Association for Traditional Thai Massage and Culture provided complimentary neck and shoulder massages, highlighting Nuad Thai, Thailand’s traditional massage practice.
Nuad Thai was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019. At the Copenhagen event, it was presented alongside Thailand’s modern medical innovations as part of the country’s broader approach to health and wellbeing.
The event also included an exhibition of Thai medical innovations and networking between Thai and Nordic representatives, with discussions focusing on potential cooperation in healthcare, research and healthy ageing.
