Thailand was the most searched holiday destination among Swedish Google users, according to a new analysis by Swedish AI and search company Castro AI.
The study found an average of 49,500 monthly searches for Thailand on Google Sweden, putting it ahead of Spain, Cyprus, Malta and Dubai. The figures are based on Google searches during the 12 months leading up to August 2026.
Thailand was searched more than twice as often as the Canary Islands, while Phuket generated a further 8,100 searches per month in its own right.
The findings come as other recent data also points to strong Swedish interest in Thailand. Travel company Ticket reported this week that Bangkok is currently the most booked destination among Swedish travellers for autumn and winter 2026/27, while bookings to Thailand have increased compared with the previous year.
Castro AI also found that none of the 19 destinations included in its study currently receives a Google AI-generated answer for destination searches. The company said this means traditional search results remain important for travel businesses seeking to reach Swedish travellers.
For Thailand, the figures suggest that the country continues to hold a strong position among Swedish travellers as the 2026/27 winter travel season approaches.
