Vietnam and Finland pledge stronger cooperation

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and Finnish State Secretary Jumka Salovaara agreed in Helsinki to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support each other at international forums.

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang met with Permanent State Secretary of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jumka Salovaara, in Helsinki on Friday to discuss ways to deepen bilateral relations, Voice of Vietnam reports.

Hang proposed enhancing cooperation through reciprocal visits, existing mechanisms, and the implementation of signed agreements. She underlined Vietnam’s commitment to comprehensive and effective collaboration with Finland.

Salovaara affirmed that Vietnam is one of Finland’s key partners in ASEAN and said Finland will continue to promote EU–Vietnam relations. He also supported Vietnam’s call for EU member states to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement and urged the European Council to lift the IUU fishing “yellow card” imposed on Vietnam.

The two sides agreed to continue mutual support at international forums, including at the United Nations, and reaffirmed the importance of international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
