A Vietnamese tourist, Nguyen Le Quang Vinh, was rescued after suffering from hypothermia while hiking alone in the snow-covered mountains of Norway, according to Vietnam.nv.
The incident took place in early March on Reinebringen in the Lofoten Islands, where rapidly changing weather conditions made the terrain difficult and dangerous.
The 34-year-old tourist, a travel blogger from Ho Chi Minh City, said he became unable to move after prolonged exposure to cold and snow. He used an emergency SOS function on his smartwatch to call for help.
Longest 40 minutes of his life
Rescue teams reached him after about 40 minutes and helped him down the mountain.
“The 40 minutes I spent lying motionless amidst the freezing snow were the longest 40 minutes of my life, as I paid the price for my decision to climb a mountain alone in the middle of winter,” he said to Vietnam.vn.
The tourist later said he had underestimated the harsh winter conditions and warned others against hiking alone in similar environments.
