Denmark and ASEAN have held their first Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee meeting, formally establishing the framework for closer cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting took place at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on 11 August 2026. It was the first formal meeting since Denmark became an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in January.
During the meeting, the two sides adopted the committee’s terms of reference and agreed to develop a five-year plan outlining practical areas of cooperation.
The discussions covered trade and investment, climate adaptation, energy transition and the ASEAN Power Grid. Other potential areas include green shipping, digitalisation, sustainable agriculture, circular economy, health, biotechnology and smart cities.
ASEAN and Denmark also discussed cooperation on human rights, counterterrorism, transnational crime and exchanges between people in the two regions.
The committee will serve as the formal platform for managing and developing the partnership in the coming years.
