Hong Kong Philharmonic showcases Finnish artistry in spring concerts

Esa-Pekka Salonen leads Hong Kong Philharmonic spring concerts showcasing Finnish music in Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will present two spring programmes highlighting Finnish conductors and composers. The performances will take place in Hong Kong and Guangzhou across April and May 2026.

Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski will lead a programme featuring Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Violin Concerto alongside Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11. The concerts will be held on 24 April in Hong Kong and 26 April in Guangzhou, marking Peltokoski’s debut in mainland China.

The Violin Concerto, premiered in 2009, was written for violinist Leila Josefowicz, who returns as soloist for the performances. The programme concludes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11, subtitled “The Year 1905.”

In early May, Salonen will take the podium himself to conduct a second programme in Hong Kong. The concerts on 1 and 2 May will include the Asia premiere of his Horn Concerto, co-commissioned by the orchestra.

The programme also features works by Richard Strauss and Jean Sibelius, with Stefan Dohr performing as soloist. Tickets for all performances are available through local ticketing platforms.
