While flights are being cut across Asia one airline is going the opposite way

Malaysia Airlines is expanding its network with new routes to China and Japan.

The airline will launch flights between Kuala Lumpur and Shenzhen and Changsha between July and September 2026.

At the same time, it will resume direct flights to Fukuoka in Japan, a route that has been paused since 2006.

More destinations in China

With the new additions, Malaysia Airlines will serve nine destinations in China.

The airline already operates flights to cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

According to the airline, the expansion is driven by growing demand from both business and leisure travellers.

“Both Shenzhen and Changsha align perfectly with our network strategy, driven by robust demand across both business and leisure segments,” said Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, Group CEO of Malaysia Aviation Group.

More flights on key routes

In addition to the new routes, Malaysia Airlines will increase flight frequency on several existing routes.

These include Brisbane in Australia, Manila in the Philippines and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
