A newborn baby girl has died after being found abandoned beneath a tree in Udon Thani, Thailand, prompting a police investigation and the detention of a Swedish man and an American woman, Asean Now reports.
The infant was discovered on 10 June 2026 behind a warehouse in the Don Udom area. Three local boys who were fishing nearby found the child and alerted authorities.
Emergency responders performed CPR for around 15 minutes before transporting the baby to Udon Thani Hospital. Medical staff were unable to revive her.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which reportedly showed a foreign couple carrying the infant wrapped in towels and walking through nearby streets before leaving her under a tree at around 9.20am.

Investigators said they traced the pair to a hotel in Udon Thani after checking nearby accommodation. The couple had checked in shortly before being located by police.
The man has been identified as a 39-year-old Swedish national and the woman as a 29-year-old American citizen. Their names have not been released.
Police are also examining earlier movements in neighbouring Nong Khai province, where the pair were reportedly seen before the incident. Immigration records showed no evidence of departure from Thailand during the relevant period.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the child’s death and abandonment.
