Thailand is considering tightening its visa-free entry rules and could reduce the number of eligible countries from 93 to 57.
According to The Thaiger, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is currently reviewing the visa-free scheme after growing criticism of its impact.
The move is part of a broader effort to attract fewer, but higher-spending visitors.
Back to previous visa rules
Thailand expanded its visa-free programme in July last year, allowing travellers from 93 countries to stay for up to 60 days.
Before that, only 57 countries were included.
Now, authorities are considering going back to the previous list.
Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworrakun said to The Thaiger that the proposal will soon be submitted to the Cabinet for further discussion.
Nordic travellers likely unaffected
It is not yet clear which countries could be removed from the visa-free list.
However, if Thailand returns to its previous system, Nordic countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland would likely remain visa-exempt.
