The Svalbard Act came into force on 14 August 1925, formally incorporating the Arctic archipelago into the Kingdom of Norway. This year’s 99th anniversary was marked on Svalbard with HRH Crown Prince Haakon, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Minister of Justice Astrid Aas-Hansen in attendance.
In Bangkok, visitors can experience a taste of Svalbard at the National Science and Technology Fair 2025. One of the event’s highlights is the “Mystery of Svalbard” exhibition, which tells the story of the Global Seed Vault and its role in global food security and biodiversity.
The Norwegian Embassy visited the exhibition together with Thailand’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, H.E. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol. The seed vault houses millions of seeds from around the world — including from Thailand.
The exhibition is open daily until 17 August at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Admission is free. For more information, go to http://thailandnstfair.com/nst68/en/index.html
