Sweden and Thailand are expanding cooperation on sustainable forestry and wood-based solutions, with Swedish expertise in forest management and wood industries being shared with Thai partners.
Chargé d’affaires Per Linnér of the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok spoke last week on “Thailand–Sweden Cooperation on Forestry and Wood Initiative” at the “Regenerative Wood City: Forest, Farm, Food and Longevity Grow Together” event at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
Linnér highlighted Sweden’s long experience in sustainable forest management and its wood-based industries, which have sought to combine economic development with environmental responsibility.
The cooperation is part of the Sweden–Thailand Strategic Partnership signed last year. Initiatives include the Woodlife Business Thailand delegation, supported by the Swedish Institute, and the Wood Solution Thailand Programme, implemented with the Stockholm Environment Institute and Eco Innovation Foundation with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The programmes aim to promote knowledge-sharing and practical solutions for more sustainable wood value chains in Thailand.
The collaboration focuses on areas including climate action, sustainable construction and the wider use of wood as a renewable material, linking Sweden’s experience in forestry and wood innovation with Thailand’s growing interest in regenerative and sustainable development.
