Sweden’s Embassy in Yangon invites to human rights event

On December 14, 2024, the Embassy of Sweden’s Section Office in Yangon will host “The People of 2024 Myanmar,” a special dance performance as part of the third annual Human Rights Days Event. This celebration of Human Rights Day includes multifaceted activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting dialogue on fundamental rights.

Artis-Hood will present the dance performance, inspired by the remarkable true story of Swedish Ambassador Harald Edelstam in Chile. This act will occur from 5:40 to 6:00 p.m. at the Institut français de Birmanie, where additional events are scheduled from December 13 to December 21, 2024.

A collaborative initiative to promote human rights

The Embassy of France in Myanmar and the Institut français de Birmanie organized this event with support from several embassies, including Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Delegation of the European Union to Myanmar. Additionally, organizations like the Goethe-Institut Myanmar and various local and international groups in Yangon are collaborating on this important initiative.

Event highlights

The Human Rights Days Event features several engaging activities:

  • December 13: A Solidarity Evening that includes a buffet, mural art inauguration, and vibrant performances. This evening will raise funds for the Eden Centre for Disabled Children.
  • December 14: A Youth Workshop where children aged 6 to 13 will create murals focusing on human rights, alongside a panel discussion on the right to education. The day will culminate with the dance performance by Artis-Hood and an open-air screening of Myanmar short films.
  • December 21: A Film Networking Event at the Goethe-Institut Myanmar, which will foster connections within the film community.
Join in the celebration

Entry for the events on December 14 is free for all. However, those wishing to attend the children’s workshop must book in advance due to limited space. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early to participate in the discussions and performances throughout the day.

In conclusion, Sweden’s Embassy Yangon and its partners are coming together to honor human rights. They reaffirm their commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of these fundamental principles for all individuals, regardless of their background.
